The Server Foundation was established in 2006. It was founded in a chatroom on IRC, born out of a discussion about utopia. Server Foundation is an experimental collaborative platform which uses the metaphor of the computer server as a site (both physical and virtual). The project is culturally located in Singapore physically and virtually connected to the world through virtual and physical networks.

Other micro-projects hosted by Server Foundation includes: Openbook, Virtual Office and The Wire.
